What's New!!!

I haven't lost my sanity I have still been baking away.  Between Kelsey's birthday and several orders it has been quicker to start a facebook page.  I am going to still keep the blog going in some fashion. You can find me on facebook here https://www.facebook.com/SanityInSugar

Today was the first order I had from a referral for someone I don't know.  That's a little more stressful when your work is going to people you don't know.   I hope they enjoyed them and thanks to my friend Lisa for the referral.

The next few week are slow on orders so I'm thinking about trying out some new designs to sell at our farmer's market.

Thanks for looking!

Thank you cookies

I love that most of these days my orders are return customers. Gives me that little pat on the back I need when I thought that their last order wasn't exactly how I had planned.  I must be doing something right. What's even more fun is when I'm given the freedom to try something new that I haven't done before.  This week it was thank you cookies.  I figured I would have to wait until fall weather to break out my new coffee cup cookie cutter, but as it turns out it has a different purpose.  When a friend calls and says I need "thank you" cookies it only makes sense to do "thanks a-latte" theme.

I'm so excited to see what new creations my friends will have me come up with next.  Thanks a-latte for my customers who give me a reason to bake and destroy my kitchen every week.

Back to baking circles, lots and lots of circles.  The mixer is whirling up a second batch of dough for more circles.  More later this week on that. Stay tuned!!!

Birthdays

This last week I had birthdays for two of my friends and if all else fails you make them cookies.I hope you enjoyed your cookies and birthdays.

I couldn't do the same old owls I had to try something a little different.  I still love how they turned out. Caleb was especially interested in which owl was looking at who.

For my friend Meagan I wanted cookies I hadn't done before and that were fitting for her special birthday.

Lots of cookies and treats to make this week.  More on that and a special fundraiser later in the week.

Red, white and Blue

My kitchen was a busy place this weekend. Lots of cookies were made!  It's been a long baseball season for our little minor league team. My partner & crime and someday co-owner of our totally awesome bake shoppe, Robin, and I decided the boys needed some end of the year cookies. The weather didn't want to cooperate tonight so hopefully we can pass these out tomorrow.

I figured while I had large amounts of red, white and blue made up I might as well get good use out of it. These are for a co-worker who is a huge Cubs fan and a new dad. He's missed out on cookies at work the last few times so I am making up for it this week.

I also made up some Fourth of July cookie baskets or bouquets.  Available for pre-order for your Fourth of July gatherings.

4th of July Beach Party
Fireworks
Contact me to order your 4th of July basket.  Beach Party baskets are $30 for a dozen and Firework basket is $25 for a dozen.

Owls and more owls!

Wish these guys good luck as they are flying south to Georgia!   I love it when a color combination comes out just the way you had pictured!

Not only did I have these owls to do but also these this week!

Hoping my weekend goes as planned making lots of cookies! Sounds like a hot weekend to have the oven going!

Have a great weekend!!!!!

Cat Cookies

If you could pick any cookies for your birthday what would they be? If you are an 8 year old year girl, than this week it was cats!  This girl loves cats!  I need to mention this is what they looked like before the trip to Des Moines.  They had an unfortunate mishap with their tails in transit.  Lesson learned.  Anyway........I hope Taylor and her friends enjoy them with and without their tails.

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAYLOR!

Team Kelsey Girl

What will you be doing on August 24, 2013?  I know what we will be doing. We will be at this years Buddy Walk.  For anyone who doesn't know my daughter has designer genes.  Not True Religion kind but the Trisomy 21 kind.  Team Kelseygirl first walked in 2011 and we will continue to walk year after year.   We walk to raise awareness and support for all the wonderful people and families we have met in the last three years. My life has been enriched in a way I didn't know possible.  A way that I could never would have imagined  when I first saw those almond shaped eyes.

I am so lucky to live in a place that has a Gigi's Playhouse.  I hate to think what I would have done without the support, information, and programming they have given our family.  The Buddy Walk supports Gigi's Playhouse and I hope you will too by walking with us.

Registration is open and can be found here. http://gigisplayhouse.donorpages.com/5K2013DesMoines/stats/

Thank you to everyone who has supported us the last 2 years! Kelsey is so lucky to have you in her life.   You know I couldn't post without cookies, right?

Cookie FAIL...Sometimes an idea just doesn't work

After the success of the Mother's Day cookie bouquets I started thinking about ideas for Father's Day.  I thought wouldn't tool cookies in a tool box be a great idea? Then I started to search the web for inspiration.  Wasn't much there to feel inspired about. So I thought I would take a stab at them.  Round 1 ended up in the garbage after my husband says "You are seriously going to take pictures of those? They are not your best work".  I let a week go by before I gave them another try.  I tried to decorate them, I did, really. After consistency issues and gray icing, I gave up on them and moved on. Am I the only who who thinks of 'Steel Magnolias' when you say "gray icing"?

I moved on to something more inspiring.   Someday I hope to go to a place like this.  This specifically is the Maldives.  Until I win the lottery and get over my fear of flying I will probably stick with the Gulf Coast and just dream about this place.

But for now it's on my bucket list and I'll just think about it when I need some tropical inspiration. I really do like how these turned out.  I only wish I would have baked more cookies they were so fun to do! Now the big question is who is going to be the recipient of them???

June is turning out to be a busy month of cookie orders! I also have at least one order a month for the next four months! Some very fun cookies coming up. I hope to put some 4th of July cookie platters and bouquets out here with pictures and pricing. Those will be on a first come first serve basis.

Memorial Day

It's Memorial Day and it continues to rain and keep us indoors.  Maybe it will give us time to reflect on what today really is about.  In my life I am so lucky to have so many that have served and they have all come home.  So today I remember  I remember those who didn't.

On Saturday I had two kids asleep and that NEVER happens.  So what does one do when when that happens? Make cookies of course.  I had seen this idea on Pinterest and a tutorial on how to do camouflage royal icing and thought I would give it a try.  It's a lot harder than the tutorial gave on.

I hope everyone enjoys their day off and remember those who gave all.

Gigi's Playhouse Golf Outing

Yeah we made it to Friday and it was a beautiful one at that. Tonight we had a Pinterest win with a copy cat recipe of a Wendy's frosty. Tonight was a night off from cookies, ball practice and school events and instead hung out with my future bakery co-owner .

I hope the golfers get great weather for the Gigi's Playhouse golf outing tomorrow. I just put the finishing touches on some cookies for the silent auction.  For any one who doesn't know Gigi's is near and dear to our family.  Find out more about the golf outing here.

If I wasn't so tired I would test out the new cookie cutters that arrived in the mail today. I'm thinking Father's Day or as Caleb just informed me they would make some good Handy Manny tool cookies and some some beach themed cookie bouquets.
Next up is a cowgirl cake for an adorable 1 year old.  Thanks again for looking and here is another picture of the graduation cookies. I am loving the cookie-fetti!!! Cant wait to put some of those in treat bags, how cute would that be? Would love to hear from you if I ever get the comments section to work.

If a dog can blog so can I

So it occurred to me while watching the Disney channel that if a dog can blog maybe so should I?  Maybe this is the perfect avenue for all my cookie nonsense. I've been trying to get business cards made up but I look at the preview and think what about this would make someone order cookies from me? So now I have a blog that I can refer people to. Now I can put my cookie adventures here instead of flooding my facebook page.  We'll see how it goes and if I can ever figure this out.

This week consisted of 8 dozen graduation cookies for the daughter of our beloved babysitter.  She picked the right school. GO HAWKS!

Another 2 dozen going to the Gigi's Playhouse Golf outing to be up for bid for silent auction.  Those are currently drying and details to be finished up tomorrow.  Those will have to be blog post #2.  Maybe by then I will have had time to add more pictures and spruce this thing up.  With no cookie orders next week I have to find something to keep me awake until midnight.
